Hannah Bell, who sadly passed away late in 2009, has left this remarkable legacy of animal stories from her childhood in Zimbabwe. She learned Shona before she learned her parents’ language, and remembers so vividly and animates the characters so well that they constitute a jewel guaranteed to charm adults and children alike. She wrote many children’s books and is especially remembered for her many stories broadcast on radio.

Engela van Rooyen is a well-known South African author, who has written more than 100 books in various genres (fiction, non-fiction, radio plays and one act plays for schools) and under various pseudonyms. Of the twenty five stories for children and young people, most have been prescribed for use in schools. Her other books include the The New Forest, published in English and African languages, Tracks, The King, the Forester and the Rainbow, Stevie’s Treasure, the Gesie series for girls of secondary school age, and Tjarie for boys. |
CP Linde was born in 1968, and studied political science, whence his keen insight into the vagaries of the transformation of an entire society and all the concomitant vanity, opportunism, power struggles, fusion of tradions and individuality. He followed by a masters degree in environmental development, pursuing his passion for nature and its conservation He practises as a professional environmental consultant. This is his first work of fiction to be published. |
Margie Frayne is a South African herbalist of over 30 years’ standing. She has undertaken a lifelong study of herbs and their healing properties, which led to a qualification in phytotherapy and training in Swedish massage and aromatherapy techniques. The late Dr Willem Serfontein was an expert in the fields of cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma and the healing benefits of foodstuffs. An emeritus professor in Chemical Pathology, he developed nutritional supplements. He co-authored Your Heart: The Unrefined Facts and wrote Beating Cancer and Nuwe nutrisie vir die nuwe millennium, as well as 74 research articles in international medical and scientific publications. |
Ian Raper taught at schools and at the Johannesburg College of Education. He was a member of provincial setworks, syllabus and matric panels. He later held senior posts at UNISA and the University of Venda (professor and dean). Engela van Dyk has a comprehensive background in editing and publishing (specialising in cultural and educational magazines). |
